Bluboks Cinetheater presents:
Summertime Blues – a tragicomedy in three acts, performed in July 2020 on the open-air stages of the wild Masurian flowerbeds: on knautia, on pimpinella, on wild rose, on firethorns and origanum vulgare (oregano).
In the leading roles: strangalia, European rose chafers, leaf beetles, foliage beetles, zygaena, foresters, white plume moths, nemophora metallica, coenonympha, fritillaries, graphosomae, longhorn beetles, mediterranean spotted chafers (Supplying their own costume and props).
Those full-fledged amateur actors are equipped with clypeus, mandibles, vertex, feelers, compound eyes, ocular suture, prognathous, gena, post-gena, frons, etc.
Crammed into a modest space, in the spotlights they bump into one another, push, shove, tread, roll, drink, spin, and copulate while collecting pollen and sipping nectar. They perish on stage, they fly into the wings.
Their behavior, personalities, and habits are no less fascinating than those of the people I have studied, recorded, and staged since always, and, for the past thirty years, for theatrical purposes. I conducted careful, studious observations of these potential actors before each performance; I want to show the viewer their remarkable otherness; not their strangeness, not spectacular moments enhanced by music, costumes, set design, or eye-catching video backdrops:
With the Opera Buffa Theater troupe I assembled a steady ensemble of actors afflicted by schizophrenia, speaking on stage about the world from their psychotic perspective.
And in Bluboks Cinetheater I have a growing troupe of professional and non-professional actors.
During my productions they tell the audience about themselves directly, interpreting existing dramas shot through with their experiences.
My purposefully insufficient psychiatric, psychological, and, in the case of Summertime Blues, entomological knowledge, allows me to observe without prejudice or bias.
